Art Reflections
¡¡¡¡My paintings exist in an actively unstable state. When I¡¯m confronted with traditional concepts, norms and conventions, and with existing power structures and interests, painting can be unbearably painful. But when I¡¯m able to overcome restrictions, and create a metaphorical linkage of fleeting images with contemporary reality ¨C during those moments of artistic success ¨C I¡¯m overjoyed and content, and I sense the nobility of humanity. It¡¯s like being reborn. Desire for these moments is what motivates me to keep painting. These momentary achievements are made possible by complex systems, which are based on centuries of historical upheaval, on cultural links between past and present and between East and West, and on the human spirit and individual talent. I hope that other artists of my generation can transform the energy of our times into creativity, in order to reveal reality as we know it, the aspirations of art, and the character of a generation. And to make this moment eternal.
