Yu Hong is a representative of New Generation Art. Her recent creations have showcased her independent cultural ideals, unique historical perspective and acute feminist sensitivities both at home and internationally. With a critical realist approach, Yu Hong dissects the conflict, dilemma and frustration between faith and reality in contemporary society, revealing the cycle of human life and quest for inaccessible ideals and desires. At Cloud Nine, which is exhibited here, draws upon the extension of the definition of ¡®cloud¡¯ within the contemporary context in its representation of ¡®contemporaneity¡¯ with a spiritual depth and meditative value. Rejuvenation and Destruction aim to discuss the academic proposition of the relationship between language and concept in the ontology of art. ¡®Rejuvenation¡¯ is a response to the crisis in Western modernity in the globalist progress, including the decline of the heterogeneous culture of the West. Looking back at the new patterns of development in today¡¯s world, we notice an accelerated rejuvenation and reconstruction of a homogenous culture. At this critical moment of grasping the qualitative shift of globalisation, Yu Hong is actively inscribing a brand new homogenous culture, whose contents and value systems will have a direct impact on the social, political, economic and cultural reflections and explorations of the world in future. It also bears close affinities with the concept of ¡®rejuvenation¡¯. We can even say that ¡®cloud nine¡¯ and ¡®rejuvenation¡¯ will form a homogenous / heterogeneous future organism through constant mutual engagement.
